Hard to believe that Rocket J. 'Rocky' Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose are 50 this year.
Originally from Frostbite Falls, Minn., the boys went on to have a pretty decent career in Hollywood.
Created by Jay Ward and Alex Anderson, Rocky and Friends ran on ABC from 1959 to 1961. In prime time, and changed the way people looked at animated shows.
The series moved to NBC and was renamed The Bullwinkle Show. It moved back to ABC and was canceled in 1963. But episodes continued to run on Saturday mornings until 1973, when it went into syndication.
Characters included Borris Godunov and Natasha Fatale, Mr. Peabody and his boy, Sherman, Captain Peter 'Wrongway' Peachfuzz, Gidney & Cloyd and Dudley Do-Right.
The series was smart, it was funny and it was funny.
