"The exuberance of youth lives in the heart of every adult frustrated enough with the status quo."
Who said that? I did. Or that's what I wrote in the notebook overnight.
Stumble through life and you're bound to feel like that. At 46, you wonder what it all means, wonder when - or if - you're ever going to grow up.
I can't be the only one who feels this way.
Moving through life as a permanent teenager, looking for the next big thing, hoping for a little fun.
Then I think of this line from The Pursuit of Happiness' "I'm an Adult Now:"
"Gotta get up and take on that world; when you're an adult, it's no cliche, it's the truth..."
Maybe someday some really old-timer will explain it all to me.
I bring this all up since it's the feeling I get watching the video for the first single off of Dinosaur Jr.'s new CD "Farm," which drops June 23. "Over It" shows J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph riding BMX bikes and skateboards. At their age.
Formed in Amherst, Mass., in the mid-80s, Dinosaur Jr. defined high gain, feedback and just kick-ass lyrics. The boys couldn't get along and disbanded in 1997.
In 2007, they came back with a vengeance with "Beyond."
I have high, high hopes for "Farm."
Dinosaur Jr., bringing back a piece of my youth - and your Video Friday:
"Over it"
"Start Choppin"
"Almost Ready"
"Forget the Swan"
"Been There All the Time"
