Video Friday (Versions)

Amy Winehouse is one unqualified disaster area.
I do not know Ms. Winehouse myself, but if you go from picture A, top to picture B, below, there may be drugs and/or alcohol involved.

(If you caught the pictures of her walking around at 3 a.m. in just her bra – surrounded by paparazzi – I have to ask this question: Someone, anyone be a man and give up you coat, you moke. Jeez. There is no fine line between making a buck and being a dick.)

Amy Winehouse’s producer is Mark Ronson.
Ronson may have made one of the best – I’d say top 5 – CDs of all 2007.

“Versions” is brilliant. He took hits, misses and obscure songs by others and remixed them with an all-star lineup.
Including Amy Winehouse singing the Zutons “Valerie.”
It is an interesting video. The story is, Winehouse didn’t show for the video shoot, so Ronson picked women who looked like the singer to lip-synch to the song.
I think it turned out better than OK.
Here’s the Ronson “Version,” followed by The Zutons original.

My favorite track on the CD is Lily Allen’s remake of The Kaiser Chiefs “Oh My God.” I disliked the original version.
An animated Lily Allen makes this “Version” something special (it’s erotic just enough to by really playful).
Again, I’ll lead with the Ronson “Version,” followed by The Kaiser Chief’s original:

Yeah man... I thought you might like that disc. I'm not too crazy about Winehouse, but the way Ronson re-recorded those tunes is damn cool.

Hey....I only wanted to edit my comment to say something additional:
Thanks for digging up the original 'versions'!!! Totally cool.
So did you notice that the Kaiser Cheifs make an appearance in the Lilly Allen version of the song? They were the 5 guys sitting in the booth together.
I am, of course, digging Valerie the most. Either version, doesn't matter to me. It's just an honor to have a better group than the Monkees, Stevie Winwood or the Greg Kihn Band recording a song with the same name that was #74 on the list of most popular baby names in the year I was born. Today it doesn't even make the top 100. Yours, if you're interested, was #9 in 1962.
